Transfer Ownership

Transfer contract owner

What the transfer ownership tool does

Ownable ERC-20 contracts have a single owner address that holds the admin functions — minting, pausing, blacklisting, and fee changes where those exist. Transferring ownership moves all of it to a new address, most often a team multisig, without touching balances or the contract address.

  • Moves every owner-gated function to the new address in one transaction.
  • A multisig destination removes the single-key risk that a compromised deployer wallet controls your token.
  • Only the current owner can transfer, and the change takes effect on confirmation.
  • Token balances, supply, and the contract address are unaffected.
  • Verify the destination before signing — a transfer to a wrong or unreachable address permanently orphans admin control.

How to use the ERC-20 transfer ownership tool

  1. Connect as the current owner

Connect the wallet that currently owns the contract on the right network.

  2. Enter the new owner

Paste the destination address, ideally a multisig you control, and check every character.

  3. Confirm

Approve the transaction. The new owner holds admin rights from that block.

Transfer Ownership FAQ

01What can the owner of an ERC-20 actually do?

Whatever the contract exposes behind onlyOwner — commonly minting new supply, pausing transfers, and managing a blacklist. It never lets the owner spend tokens out of someone else's wallet.

02Can I reverse an ownership transfer?

Only the new owner can transfer it back. Treat the transfer as final from your side.

03Should I transfer to a multisig or renounce ownership?

Transfer to a multisig if you still need admin functions such as scheduled minting. Renounce if the token is meant to be fully immutable and you want holders to see that no admin exists.
