How to Create a Sui Coin (Without Writing Move)
A Sui coin is a Move package you publish, identified by a type — not a single contract address. You can write the module and publish with the Sui CLI, or have a generator publish an equivalent package from a form. You receive the initial supply and a TreasuryCap. This page is the launch briefing; Mysten Labs docs remain the API authority.

Create a Sui coin — coin, not contract
If you meant an ERC-20 or an SPL mint, stop here and use the ERC-20 token generator or how to create a Solana token. How to create a Sui coin is a different object model.
| Sui coin | ERC-20 | SPL token | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity | 0xpkg::module::COIN | Contract address | Mint address |
| Permissions | Capability objects (TreasuryCap) | owner in the contract | Mint / freeze / update authorities |
| Fixed supply proof | Cap object deleted | Owner renounced + no mint | Mint authority revoked |
Wallets display CoinMetadata. Holders who care about inflation check whether the TreasuryCap still exists, not a zero in a contract field.
Sui coin decimals and what you must decide
Before you publish: name, symbol, description, icon URL, decimals, initial supply, and what happens to the TreasuryCap. Decimals and the coin type are fixed in the package. Nine matches SUI unless you are mimicking a 6-decimal stable. Metadata can change later while CoinMetadata is mutable — use update coin metadata.
Three ways to publish a Move coin
The CLI costs only gas and is the right tool if you already have the Sui toolchain. The form buys a published package, CoinMetadata, and the cap in your wallet without installing Move. Neither path is a security audit of the generated package beyond “standard coin package.” Official reference: Sui create-a-fungible-token. How to create a Sui coin on a form does not replace that document.
| Path | You must know | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Sui CLI + Currency Standard | Move, Sui CLI, current constructors | Package, metadata, TreasuryCap you control |
| One-time witness init | Older examples still use this pattern | Same user-visible objects if you publish correctly |
| MoonSol form | A wallet and the fields above | Package published; supply and cap to the signer |
Framework APIs have moved toward coin_registry::new_currency (Currency Standard) as of 2026. Consumer tools still talk about older create_currency helpers. This page describes the objects you hold — package, CoinMetadata, TreasuryCap — not an unpublished MoonSol implementation claim.
Path A — Official CLI in brief
Install the Sui CLI, define a key-only type, call the current Currency Standard constructor, mint, finalize, then transfer or destroy the TreasuryCap. Mysten’s Move examples show the pattern. Do not copy a year-old gist onto mainnet; the framework shifts. Point at the official docs above and the Mysten my_coin samples.
Path B — Sui token creator (no code)
This matches the live Sui token creator. Fee: 0.1 SUI + gas on mainnet, as of September 2026. Test networks have no platform fee. MoonSol is non-custodial — see About.
Connect a wallet
Slush, Sui Wallet, or another dapp-kit wallet.
Choose devnet or testnet first
No platform fee. Use a faucet for SUI. Do not “just test” on mainnet.
Name, symbol, description, decimals, supply, icon
Nine decimals unless you have a stable-style reason for six.
Sign the publish transaction
The package is published; supply is minted to the signer; TreasuryCap returns to the signer.
Decide the cap
Keep it, transfer it, or burn it. That choice is the whole trust story.
Sui TreasuryCap is the whole trust story
Whoever holds the cap can mint and burn. Transferring it moves that right. Burning it makes supply provably fixed — holders check the object is gone. Burn when supply is final; use a multisig if emissions continue; never leave a cap on a hot wallet for a public coin.
- Burn the TreasuryCap when you will not mint again.
- Transfer the TreasuryCap to a safer address or multisig.
- Mint or burn tokens while you still hold the cap.
Sui CoinMetadata and after publishing
- Sui dashboard — live objects for the coins you hold.
- Sui multisender — allocations in batches.
- Update coin metadata while it is still mutable.
- Pause / freeze only if the published package supports them — pause and freeze address. Not every coin has those abilities.
Liquidity: MoonSol does not create Sui pools. Cetus and Turbos exist on Sui; this site does not run them. Do not expect the Solana Raydium tool to apply here.
Common mistakes
- Publishing on mainnet to “just test.”
- Keeping the cap and advertising “fixed supply.”
- Confusing the package ID with the coin type string.
- Expecting Raydium or a MoonSol Sui pool button.
- Treating the generator as a project endorsement. It is not. See About.
Questions readers actually ask
How much does it cost to create a Sui coin?
On MoonSol: 0.1 SUI plus gas on mainnet, as of September 2026. Devnet and testnet have no platform fee — you only need faucet SUI.
Do I need to know Move?
Not for the form. You need Move (or a developer) if you want a regulated coin, custom deny-lists, or constructors the generator does not publish.
What is a TreasuryCap?
A capability object in your wallet. Holding it means you can mint and burn. Deleting it is how Sui proves supply cannot grow.
Can I change the name after publishing?
Often yes, while CoinMetadata is mutable. The coin type and decimals cannot change. Use the update-metadata tool.
Why launch on Sui instead of Solana or an EVM chain?
Smaller audience than Solana or major EVMs. Cleaner supply proof if you burn the cap. Launch there if your users are already on Sui — not because a generator exists. Compare Solana, EVM, and Sui.
Publish the coin
Use the Sui token creator. Fees: pricing. If Sui is the wrong chain, start with the Solana guide.
